Michael J. Murphy – Senior Partner

Michael received his undergraduate degree from St. Anselm’s College in 1963 at which time he joined the United States Air Force where he served as a Captain from 1963–1967. Upon returning home, Michael enrolled in Suffolk Law School where he graduated in 1971 and was admitted to practice in Massachusetts that same year. Michael joined his father’s firm in 1971 and served as the City of Chicopee’s Assistant Solicitor for four years before serving as the Solicitor. In addition to practicing law, Michael has been a successful real estate developer and specializes in representing developers throughout the entire development process. Michael has been a long standing member of the Chicopee Bar Association, Hampden County Bar Association and Massachusetts Bar Association throughout his career.  He has held memberships in many other organizations including the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce, the Chicopee Rotary Club and the Chicopee Elks Lodge. Michael has served as a board member for many years of Westover Metropolitan Development Corporation, Board of Incorporators for the Chicopee Savings Bank and the 1995 Grand Marshall for the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

As the Senior Partner, Michael specializes in real estate development, estate planning, and the day to day operations of the firm.

Thomas D. Murphy Jr. – Of Counsel

Tom received his undergraduate degree from St. Anselm’s College in 1968 and then served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1968 through 1971 where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star in Vietnam. He received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in 1974 and was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts that same year. After joining his father’s firm in 1974, Tom served as a prosecutor for the City of Chicopee for two years before returning to Murphy McCoubrey. Tom is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Hampden County Bar Association, and past president of the Chicopee Bar Association. He has been a long standing member of the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Elms College Board of Trustees. He has served as the President of the Chicopee Boys and Girls Club, Chairman of the United Way of Chicopee, Trustee of the Chicopee Savings Bank, and the 1987 Grand Marshall for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.

Currently, Tom is the Founder and Chairman of Estate Works Inc., a national online trust & estate workflow system for commercial banks and law firms, and Convenient Cards Inc. Tom also serves as clerk of the Falcon Hotel Corp., a partner of GM&M Realty Trust of Chicopee, and partner of Williamson Commercial Properties L.L.C. of Springfield.

Norman J. Guz Jr. – Of Counsel

Norman received his undergraduate degree from American International College in 1972 and his Juris Doctor from Western New England School of Law in 1976. He began his career working for Western Massachusetts Legal Services from 1977 through 1979 and then worked for Brightwood Development Corporation from 1979 through 1981. He then joined the firm of Murray, Fitzgerald, Sabella, Donahue, and was partner from 1986 through 1992 before joining Murphy McCoubrey. Norman is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Norman specializes in Commercial and Banking Law, Housing Development, and Municipal Finance.

Norman is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Massachusetts Bar Association.  He has represented several public entities as bond counsel for general purpose and utilities bond issues.

Thomas G. Costello – Attorney

Tom received his undergraduate degree from Saint Michael’s College in 1967 and joined the Unites States Air Force serving until 1971, which included a tour in South Vietnam where he was an intelligence officer for the 483 Tactical Airlift Wing—the only Caribou C-7A Wing in the Air Force. He continued serving as a member of the Air Force Reserves retiring in 1994 with a rank of Lt. Colonel. Tom received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in 1974. Thomas was Assistant City Solicitor for Chicopee from 1984-through 1985, and City Solicitor from 1988-1998. Tom joined Murphy McCoubrey in 1985.

Tom is admitted to practice in both Massachusetts and New York as well as the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for Massachusetts, Connecticut, and both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Tom specializes in Municipal Law, Landlord Tenant and Housing Matters, Estate Planning, and Probate. Tom is a member of the Hampden County Bar Association, Chicopee Bar Association, the Elks, Knights of Columbus, and the Reserve Officer Association.

Arthur T. McCoubrey – Title Examiner

Arthur is a lifelong resident of Chicopee and the son of founding partner William K. McCoubrey.  Arthur attended the University of Massachusetts and received an associate's degree in liberal arts from Holyoke Community College. Arthur joined the firm in 1983. He has over 25 years of experience examining titles to residential and commercial properties.

Jason L. Levine – Attorney

Jason, a 1997 graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School, received his undergraduate degree from Westfield State College in 2006. Jason then earned his Juris Doctorate from the Western New England College School of Law in 2010, where he also served as the Student Bar Association President.

In 2010, Jason was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and was admitted in New York in 2013. In addition to Commercial and Banking Law matters, including Foreclosures, Jason handles the firm's Divorce and Family Law Matters, Landlord/Tenant Issues, Appellate Proceedings, Criminal Defense, Abuse Prevention and Harassment Matters, and General Litigation.

Jason is a member of the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, New York Bar Association and the Hampden County Bar Association.

Jonathan P. Labonte – Attorney

Jon received his undergraduate degree from Our Lady of the Elm’s College graduating Summa Cum Laude after successfully completing two other associate’s degree programs from both Springfield Technical Community College (criminal justice) and Holyoke Community College (music). Jon received his Juris Doctor from Western New England in 2015, graduating top quadrant of his class.

Jon volunteered at the Hamden County Family and Probate Court as an assistant judicial case manager and continues to serve the public as a volunteer for “the Uncontested Divorce Project,” a service that provides divorces to Hampden County’s indigent population.

In the Spring of 2018 Jon became a public defender for the Committee for Public Counsel Services and specializes in criminal defense and divorce. Jon has been part of the firm since May of 2018.
